This year I said to Ella, "do you want to pretend about Santa this year?"
"Sure," was the response.
"How much, Sweetie?"
"AAAALLLLLLLL of it!"
So now we all have elf names, courtesy of an online name generator. We made elf-sized pizzas. We wrote e-mails to Santa (Lucy just wants cookies & bananas). We watched "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." For about a week, Lu has been suggesting that after we drop Ella off at school we should "go to Sanna's house."
Today we did it. We did the whole mall Santa thing. We got there bright & early. We were, like, the third family in line. Ella went right up to the ol' guy & sat on his lap. Lu melted into tears as soon as her tush hit his knee. I really thought she was going to handle it better than that. Now she's not even sure she wants him to bring the cookies.
Santa's helpers offered to do a re-shoot, but Lu wasn't playing. I figure everyone has a crying-with-Santa picture, right?
What really gets me is the expression on Santa's face. I mean, we are only the third family in line & he's already worn out & sick of crying babies. He's got a looong day ahead of him.
